Formal Education Process in Belize
The formal process of education system is organized into four levels as follows:

- Early Childhood Education: provide educational experiences for early childhood socio-emotional, psychomotor and cognitive development for children between the ages of three years and five years;
- Primary Education: provide instruction for children generally between the ages of five years and fourteen years of age focused on the attainment of functional literacy and numeracy and the acquisition of such other basic knowledge, competencies, attitudes and values required for personal growth and to function effectively in society;
- Secondary Education: provide instruction for students generally between the ages of twelve years and eighteen years of age focused on the acquisition of knowledge, competencies and attitudes at a pre-employment level, involving instruction in various subject areas at the level of CXC CSEC or at similar levels of other examining bodies, and
- Tertiary Level Education: provide in-depth academic pursuit or professional studies in specialized fields and which require completion of secondary education for matriculation.
